MEASURE, end of 4th century

А cylindrical bronze measure was discovered in 1972 together with many different objects in a hoard in the fortress. The three-line inscription informs us the Uranius probably of Greek origin had been the controller of weights and measures used for collecting taxes and tributes in kind. It is interesting that this vessel used for weighing certain amount of cereals, oil, vine and the like was taking up volume of 818 cubic centimeters and was not equivalent to standard Roman sextarius (547cm3).
