Prehistory

The Prehistory Collection preserves objects that bear witness to the continuous duration of life from the early Neolithic period to the arrival of the Romans. The collection contains over five thousand artifacts, of which about 1,500 have been preserved in their entirety or with minor damage or have been reconstructed. The largest number of objects made of ceramics, stone, metal and bone, were collected through systematic and revision excavations, reconnaissance, or as a random finding through a gift or purchase. Through the presentation of the most valuable archaeological exhibits and the application of fragmented reconstruction of individual objects, the use of modern technology, photographs, and the synthesis of various arts, the way of life of the population, economic development, social structure, art and spirituality – religious thought from the beginning of human settlement in these areas are evoked.
